28 Charged on first night of Gold Coast Police blitz

THE first night of Operation Seymour nabbed 28 people on 36 charges as 50 extra police officers started a month-long deployment on the Gold Coast last night.

The charges include drug possession and drink and drug driving.

Police conducted 230 random breath tests and 190 street checks.

According to South Eastern Region Assistant Commissioner Paul Wilson, police also conducted 121 ‘stop robs’ in which officers proactively stop people and talk to them about their own personal safety to prevent them from becoming a victim of crime.

Assistant Commissioner Wilson said Operation Seymour was in addition to operations Apollo and Resolve which have already been instigated to address crime in the region.

He said when other police operations and actions were taken into account, the combined results for Gold Coast and Coomera police districts since Friday were the arrests of 146 people on 162 charges.
