Operation Seymour finished last week, with 165 people arrested on 236 charges ranging from drink-driving to assault and drug matters across the Gold Coast and Coomera districts. Most of the arrests were for minor matters.
Following the departure of the 50 extra officers brought to the Glitter Strip for the past four weeks, there had been fears criminals would take back the streets.
But police kept a lid on crime, with almost a dozen different police operations in force across the weekend.
The Gold Coast’s top cop, Assistant Police Commissioner Paul Wilson, said he was still hopeful of gaining more full-time reinforcements now that the 50 officers involved with Operation Seymour had returned to their regular posts.
“It is high on his (Police Commissioner Bob Atkinson) priority list,” Mr Wilson said.
The high-profile and high-visibility Operation Seymour has been hailed a success by senior police, with a noticeable drop in armed robberies across both Gold Coast and Coomera police districts.
The death of Detective Senior Constable Damian Leeding at a botched hold-up three months ago sparked the creation of Operation Seymour and Taskforce Resolve to target Coast crime.
