The Gold Coast and neighbouring districts are to get more police.
Queensland Police Assistant Commissioner Paul Wilson says the 51 extra positions include 14 new detectives for the Gold Coast and Coomera police districts.
He said officers would work on general duties, traffic control, disaster management and as district duty officers.
Mr Wilson said the south eastern police region, covering the Gold Coast, Logan and Coomera areas, was the busiest in the state and needed extra resources.
