Disqualified driver on raft of charges

A SERIAL disqualified driver was allegedly caught by police behind the wheel of an unregistered car with stolen number plates at Tweed Heads yesterday.

About 4.10pm police intercepted the man, who is disqualified from driving until 2016, in a shopping centre car park on Minjungbal Drive.

They allegedly spotted a Holden Commodore being driven by the known disqualified driver.

After initial attempts to stop the vehicle failed, police located it a short time later in a nearby car park.

Police spoke to the driver and confirmed he had previously been disqualified from driving until May 2016.

Checks of the Queensland number plates revealed they had allegedly been stolen from an automotive shop in Tweed Heads South last month.

The 30-year-old man was arrested and taken to Tweed Heads Police Station where he was charged with driving while disqualified, using an unregistered vehicle, using an uninsured vehicle and driving a vehicle displaying unauthorised number plates.

He will appear in Tweed Heads Local Court on April 18.
